THREE TEAMS ARE TIED FOR THE LEAD AT LGA FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

July 18, 2020                Houma, Louisiana

Griffin Dorr of Mandeville / Jack Abney of Slidell, Greg Berthelot of Baton Rouge / Kyle Williams of Choudrant, and Charlie Flynn of Alexandria / Jacob Broussard of Lafayette all fired a nine-under par 63 on Saturday to the lead at the Louisiana Golf Association Four-Ball Championship at Ellendale Country Club. Dorr and Abney held the solo lead for most of the day until last year’s runners-up Flynn and Broussard and the 2011 LGA Four-Ball Champions, Berthelot and Williams finished strong to match the low round of the day. Jake Marler of Shreveport and Eli Ortego of Broussard finished the day one shot off of the lead with an eight-under par 64. Josh Fullilove of Larose / Jack Lee of Patterson, Burt Allen / Billy Joe Toliver of Shreveport, and Eric Hoffman of Denham Springs / Dante Caldera of Greenwell Springs all shot a seven-under par 65 to finish at T-3 after the first round.

It was a typical summer day for golf in South Louisiana with temperatures rising to the low 90’s and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Play was suspended at 2:02 PM for a dangerous situation and play resumed at 4 PM. This Championship has been a wonderful showcase of Ellendale Country Club which last hosted an LGA Championship 10 years ago. The course drew rave reviews and it was in excellent condition for the best Four-Ball teams in the state.

The Ellendale Country Club course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,800 yards on Saturday.  Starting times will begin off the first tee at 7 AM on Sunday, with the leaders going off last at 12:10 PM.
