PEYTON JOHNSON LEADS AFTER 36 HOLES AT 63RD LOUISIANA JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Alexandria, La. – July 9, 2020

Peyton Johnson of Shreveport shot the low round of the Championship, a six-under par 66 to lead the 63rd Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship with 18 holes remaining. Johnson was in total control of his game, carding 6 birdies and 0 bogeys in his second round to reach ten-under par (134) for the Championship. Johnson leads Eli Ortego of Broussard by two shots (136) heading into the final round. Ortego, who finished runner-up at the 101st Louisiana Amateur Championship almost one month ago, continues his excellent play by tying Johnson for the low round of the Championship on Thursday highlighted by his eagle pitch in at the par 4 16th hole. Luke Haskew of Baton Rouge and Noah McWilliams of Benton are tied for third place in the Championship at six-under par 138.  

Charlie Bell of Shreveport won the Boy’s 14-15 age division Championship with scores of 74-73 (147) over Marko Radovic of New Orleans who shot a two-round total of 149. Logan Heltz of Abita Springs followed up a one-over par 73 in the first round with a three-over par 75 to win the Boy’s 12-13 age division Championship by four strokes over Christopher Cain of Lafayette, James Holtsclaw of Shreveport, and Ben Blanco of Broussard. Hudson Greene of Bossier City claimed the Championship in the Boy’s 10-11 age division over Noah Chauvin of Broussard (151), after shooting a final round four-over par 76 for a total of 147.

It was a hot and humid day at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria. The course played to a par 72 at approximately 6,800 yards for the Boy’s Overall and 14-15 age division Championship. The 12-13 boy’s played at approximately 5,800 yards. The 10-11 boy’s age division played at approximately 5,300 yards.
