MILES MERLIN, KAITLYN MONTOYA AND JAMES HOLTSCLAW WIN LJGT AT THE UNIVERSITY CLUB.

August 5, 2020             Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Miles Merlin of Metairie overcame a three shot deficit to win the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour at The University Club on Wednesday. Merlin posted the low round of the day, an even-par 72 to win by four strokes over Eli Hill of Bossier City and Ethan Dial of Bossier City. Kaitlyn Montoya of Shreveport had the round of the tournament, a two-under par 70 to win the Girls’ division by an impressive twelve strokes. This is the second consecutive LJGT victory for Montoya as she gears up to compete for a spot on the University of Louisiana at Monroe Women’s’ Golf team this fall as a freshman. James Holtsclaw of Shreveport continues his dominance in the Boys’ 11-13 division by winning his third consecutive LJGT event. Holtsclaw shot a final round of even-par 72 to defeat Ben Blanco of Broussard.

It was a challenging day for golf in Baton Rouge with temperatures rising to the mid-90s and the wind blowing all day, make club selection difficult. The University Club, which is the home of the LSU Men’s and Women’s golf teams is in excellent condition and was a true test for the best junior golfers across the state.

The University Club played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,600 yards for the Overall Boy’s division and approximately 5,600 for the Overall Girl’s and the Boy’s 11-13 division.
