John Thornton of Baton Rouge and Reeves Pullin of Choudrant both shot an opening round of even-par 71 to take the lead in the Overall Boy’s division at The David Toms Junior Championship at East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport. Logan Batiste of Slidell and Noah McWilliams of Benton finished the opening round one shot off of the lead with a one-over par 72. Seven players are within three shots of the lead with 18 holes remaining. Sydney Moss of Shreveport continues her great play after winning the Louisiana Girl’s Junior Amateur Championship just three weeks ago at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria. Moss carded an opening round of five-over par 76 to lead Kaitlyn Montoya of Shreveport by one stroke. Jack Gilmer of Shreveport fired a one-over par 72 to lead the Boy’s 11-13 division over James Holtsclaw of Shreveport by two strokes.
It was a hot summer day for golf at East Ridge Country Club with temperatures rising to the mid-90s. East Ridge Country Club is in excellent condition and drew rave reviews from the largest Louisiana Junior Golf Tour field this summer.
East Ridge Country Club course played to a par of 71 at approximately 6,600 yards for the Overall Boy’s division and approximately 5,600 for the Overall Girl’s and the Boy’s 11-13 division.
