Eli Hill of Bossier City shot an opening round of even-par 72 to take the lead in the Overall Boy’s division at Chateau Golf & Country Club in Kenner. Hill, the 2019 LJGT Player of the Year leads Riley Hnatyshyn of Abita Springs by 5 strokes and Teagan Richards of Baton Rouge by 7 strokes. Cooper Brennan of Covington, Dwayne Heron of Gretna, Preston Giroir of Slidell, Bryce Sutterfield of Broussard all finished at T-4. Sarah Meral of Abita Springs leads Victoria Stephens of Harahan in the Girl’s division by 3 strokes after shooting a first round three-over par 75. James Holtsclaw of Shreveport shot an impressive one-under par 71 to lead the Boy’s 11-13 division by 4 strokes over Logan Heltz of Abita Springs.
It was a typical summer day for golf in South Louisiana with temperatures rising to the low 90s and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Play was suspended at 12:28 PM for a dangerous situation and play resumed at 1:30 PM. Chateau Golf & Country Club drew rave reviews and it was in excellent condition for the junior from all over the state.
Chateau Golf & Country Club course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,500 yards for the Overall Boy’s division and approximately 5,500 for the Overall Girl’s and the Boy’s 11-13 division.
