Sliman Tied for First After First Round of Lake Charles Spring Classic

A look into the first round of the 2024 Lake Charles Spring Classic held at Contraband Bayou Golf Club in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

73 players competed in the first round of the 2024 Lake Charles Spring Classic hosted by the Southern Texas PGA, Louisiana Junior Golf Tour, and Gulf States PGA. Tee times began this morning at 8:00 AM off the 1st and 10th tee.

Lake Charles, LA – Drew Sliman of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Gavin Hymer of San Antonio, Texas are currently tied for first place after completing the first 18 holes of the 2024 Lake Charles Spring Classic in the Overall Boys 14-18 division. The day began with cool temperatures but featured clear skies throughout.

Sliman had a strong performance, recording 6 birdies and 2 bogeys in the first round, which was the highest birdie count among all players. Although he started slower on the front 9 with a 3-over par, placing him at T-26, he recovered on the back 9 with a 4-under par, securing a shared top position on the leaderboard.

Hymer maintained consistent play, achieving an even par on the back 9 with a bogey on hole 14 and a birdie on hole 15. He further solidified his position with a birdie on hole 14 on the front 9, finishing the round at one-under par and holding the #1 spot.

Following closely behind in a 4-way tie at even par are Jacob Presley of Tomball, Texas, Shea Sethre-Brink of Dripping Springs, Texas, Christopher Cain of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Paul Toups III of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In the Overall Girl’s Division, Maci Williams from Brusly, Louisiana, currently holds the third position, finishing the round at 5 over par with a performance of two over on the front 9 and three over on the back 9. Leading the pack is Jordan Sandoval from San Antonio, Texas, who showcased consistency with 2 bogeys and 1 birdie on both the front and back nine. Following closely in second place, two shots behind, is Grace Wu from Houston, Texas, with a round featuring three birdies and one bogey on the front 9, and two bogeys and one birdie on the back 9, ending at 4 over par.
