Round one results of the 24th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzalez, Louisiana on Saturday, August 19th, 2023.

70 players competed in round one of the 24th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship.  Tee times for the morning wave began at 7:30 AM off the 1st tee.  The final group finished right on time at 3:30 PM.  The course played to a par 72 at 6,337 yards for the Mens’ Division and 5,394 yards for the Womens’ Division.

In the opening round of the 24th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship, Ronnie Averett from Loranger, Dwayne Brown from Lafayette, Matthew Freeburgh from Baton Rouge, and Ken Alexander from Lafayette all achieved an impressive three-under par score of 69, resulting in a remarkable four-way tie for the top position on the leaderboard as they head into tomorrow’s round. Adding to the excitement, Carl Lemaire from Sulphur is close behind with a score of two-under par, 70, trailing by just one stroke.

The championship’s Flighted Men’s division is divided into three flights: the St. Andrew’s Flight, Troon Flight, and Carnoustie Flight. In the St. Andrew’s flight, Ronnie Averett, Dwayne Brown, and Matthew Freeburgh lead with their outstanding three-under par, 69 scores. Ken Alexander sets the pace in the Troon flight with a matching three-under par, 69. Meanwhile, Carl Lemaire maintains the lead in the Carnoustie flight with a two-under par, 70 score.

The Women’s Division is led by Miss Nicasia Chase from Gonzalez, who impressed with her remarkable two-under par, 70 score. Chase’s round featured 8 birdies, two bogeys, and two double bogeys, showcasing her skill and determination. As a frequent participant in the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour tournaments, she’s poised to contend for a well-deserved victory this weekend. Following closely in second place is April Prestenbach from Baton Rouge, with a score of 73, trailing by three strokes. The women’s division is scheduled to tee off tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM, promising another exciting day of golf.
