February 22, 2020

Choudrant, Louisiana

Callaway Gosslee and Jake Marler of Shreveport fired a seven-under par 65 on Saturday at Squire Creek Country Club. The North Louisiana duo hold a two-shot lead over Ethan Dial and Eli Hill of Bossier City heading into Sunday’s final round. The first round of the Second Annual Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball Championship started at 10:20 AM (shotgun start) after a fifty-minute frost delay. Gosslee and Marler started their round at the par 5 2nd hole (528 yards) and quickly got to red figures with a birdie by Marler. After four consecutive pars, Marler made another birdie at the par 4 7th hole. Their lone bogey of the day came at the par 4 8th. After making a par at the par 5 9th hole, Marler tacked on consecutive birdies at holes 10 and 11. A par at the 12th hole was followed by back to back birdies at holes 13 and 14. After making par on the next two holes, Gosslee made a birdie at the par 5 17th hole. Marler parred the 18th hole, and Gosslee finished their round in style with a birdie at the par 4 1st hole.  Gosslee/Marler and Dial/Hill will tee off in the final pairing off #1 tee at 9:50 AM on Sunday.

Leading the Girls Division are Sydney Moss of Shreveport and Isabella Callaba of Lake Charles (75). Logan Heltz of Abita Springs and Hudson Partin of Denham Springs are currently in first place in the Boys 11-13 Division after a first round 75.

It was a picture-perfect day in Choudrant, with brisk and balmy temperatures reaching the upper 40s. The Tom Fazio designed Squire Creek Country Club drew rave reviews from competitors. The Squire Creek course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,600 yards on Saturday for the Overall Boys competition and 5,200 yards for the Girls and 11-13 Boys. The greens are pure and even though the course has received a lot of rain this winter, it is in excellent condition. Teams were repaired for the final round based on first round scores. Starting times will begin off the first tee and tenth at 8:00 AM on Sunday.
