Andrew Noto of Metairie fired a five-under par 67 on Friday at Squire Creek Country Club and leads the 28th LGA Mid-Amateur Championship by one stroke over Derek Busby of Ruston. Noto’s low round of the day round included an incredible hole-in-one at the par 3 12th hole. Noto hit a seven-iron 178 yards for the ace. Other highlights of Noto’s stellar round included birdies on holes #2, #4, #10, and #13. His lone bogey was carded at the par 4 8th hole. Defending Champion Hank Shaheen of Dequincy and four-time LGA Mid-Amateur Champion Patrick Christovich of New Orleans are just two shots back of the lead at three-under par.
Other under par scores were shot by: Josh Fullilove of Larose (70), Jeremey Jeansonne of Shreveport (70), Bob Cooper of Monroe (70), Stan Humphries of Monroe (70), and Mike Stackus of Zachary (71).
The Tom Fazio designed Squire Creek course is the #1 ranked golf course in the state by Golf Digest. The course is in pristine condition for this Championship and drew rave reviews from this field of the top amateur golfers in Louisiana over the age of 25. The Squire Creek CC course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,850 yards on Friday. Play will begin off both #1 and #10 tees at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The field will be cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
