Introducing 2020 Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Schedule

Lafayette, Louisiana – November 12, 2019

The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) and Gulf States Section PGA (GSPGA) announced the 2020 Louisiana Junior Golf Tour (LJGT) schedule on Tuesday. The LJGT had an incredibly successful inaugural year in 2019, with over 180 players joining the Tour. “We are looking forward to building on that momentum and continuing to advance junior golf in Louisiana,” said LGA Executive Director Logan Ray. Louisiana Junior Golf Tour membership is open to juniors of all skill levels, ages 11-18.

The 2020 LJGT schedule of events will feature eight competitive opportunities for junior boys and girls:

The 2020 season will kick off in spectacular fashion with the Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball Championship at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant the weekend of February 22-23, 2020. Burns, a Louisiana native, needs no introduction to golf fans in the Bayou State. He has graciously offered to once again serve as host for the only Junior Four-Ball event in the state at his home club Squire Creek. Burns has a promising career ahead of him on the PGA Tour. As he starts on his professional journey, Burns has made it one of his missions to give back to the game, and to have his support of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour is tremendous. Burns started exactly where many of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour competitors are now, rising through the junior ranks at the local level before dominating the national junior golf scene. Burns won the LGA Junior Amateur Championship in 2012 at the age of 15, and he played college golf at LSU.  He is a great ambassador for golf in Louisiana and is a role model for today’s LJGT competitors.

This Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball Championship will combine the fun, competitive atmosphere that a Four-Ball event can create with the opportunity to meet and learn from a PGA Tour Pro. Registration for this event opens November 11, 2019 and is limited to the first 48 teams that apply to play. As is the case for all other LJGT events, the Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball will be conducted over 36-holes. The timing of this event is ideal. From the players’ standpoint, it will be a great start to the year coming off “winter rest” and being able to play in a team event. It also provides an opportunity for Louisiana junior golfers to sharpen their game before the high school golf season begins. Squire Creek was rated as the #1 golf course in Louisiana by Golf Digest. The Tom Fazio designed track hosted the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2015, and it has hosted numerous LGA Championships over the years including the LGA Mid-Amateur in 2007, 2012, 2014, and 2019. Squire Creek boasts some of the best greens in the state, known for their speed and undulation, and the golf course is in excellent condition year-round.

The individual stroke play championship at Squire Creek will be conducted June 7-8. This event was awarded AJGA stars in 2019 and will be a can’t miss event once again in 2020. It’s the first of the 36-hole summer series of stroke-play events for players 11-18 years of age. These events will feature three divisions; one Overall Girls division (13-18), one Overall Boys division (13-18) and one Boys (11-13) division. Overall Boys will play from approximately 6,600 yards and the Girls and younger Boys will play from approximately 5,700 yards. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division, and player of the year points will be applied to the season points race. The LJGT will also make stops at Chateau G & CC in Kenner, East Ridge CC in Shreveport, and Lake Charles Country Club. The complete 2020 LJGT schedule and registration can be accessed online here.

The 63rd edition of the LGA Junior Amateur Championship will be conducted at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria. This is the pinnacle championship for juniors in the state of Louisiana and the champions will receive automatic invitations to compete in the Junior River Cup Matches as well as the LJGT Tour Championship. There are 200 AJGA stars up for grabs to the top finishers in the LGA Junior Amateur and “fully exempt status” to the Overall Boys Champion.

About the LJGT:
