Houma, LA — June 16, 2023
It was an incredible day of golf at Ellendale Country Club, with the best amateurs in the state competing at a high level over two rounds of match play. The day started with a 16 seeded bracket, and when the dust settled, only 4 players remained with a shot at winning the 95th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship. Saturday’s Semifinal Matches are set and sure to be competitive. The first match consists of Emma Smithers of New Orleans and Evelyn Arieta of Denham Springs. Arieta defeated hometown neighbor, Sophia Macias, one up on the 18th hole; while Smithers, a Loyola University – New Orleans Golf team member, defeated Reese Drezins 4 &2.
The other Semifinal Match is between Sarah Hodson of Raceland and Julie Harrison of Baton Rouge and will take place tomorrow at 7:38 AM. Hodson has played well this week and plays college golf at Mississippi College. Hodson defeated Liza Lapeyre of New Orleans 5 & 4.
