Liza Lapeyre and Sarah Meral Share Low Medalist Honors at 95th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship

Houma, Louisiana – June 15, 2023

Liza Lapeyre of New Orleans and Sarah Meral of Abita Springs both earned low medalist honors during the stroke play qualifying round of the 95th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship.  Both players fired an impressive round shooting one-under par for a score of 71. Meral won a scorecard playoff and will be the number one overall seed, while Lapeyre will be the number two overall seed heading into match play that will begin Friday morning. Lapeyre will face the LJGT 2023 Sam Burns Championship winner, Maci Williams of Brusly, Louisiana; while, Meral is lined up against sixteen seed, Reese Drezins of Slidell.  The top 16 players from stroke play qualifying will compete in the Championship bracket for a chance to be named the top Women’s Amateur golf in Louisiana.

It was a hot, humid south Louisiana summer day with temperatures approaching the high-90’s. Ellendale Country Club provided a well-maintained course, lush greenery, and clear skies to create the ideal atmosphere to allow players to focus on their game with ease. The course was played to a par 72 at approximately 6,014 yards for the Championship qualifying round and a par 72 at approximately 5,314 yards for Flighted Championships.
