Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Releases 2023 Tournament Schedule

December 9, 2022 – Lafayette, Louisiana

The Louisiana Junior Golf Tour (LJGT) is pleased to announce its 2023 tournament schedule. As of December 1st, 2022, The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) has hired former USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern, Jake Norris, as the Director of Junior Golf. “The LJGT is coming off an exciting and successful 2022 season. We are looking forward to continuing that excitement and providing top class tournaments for the upcoming year.” says Norris.

The LJGT schedule will feature 13 competitive opportunities for LJGT members. In those include, the U.S. Junior and Girls’ Junior Amateur Qualifier, June 12, at the Country Club of Louisiana, the Gulf States PGA Junior Championship, June 28-29 hosted by The Club at Diamondhead in Mississippi, and two new events in partnership with the Southern Texas PGA. The LJGT is super excited to partner with the Southern Texas PGA (STPGA) and bring the Lake Charles Classics to the tour. One of the Classics will be played in the Spring, March 25-16, hosted by Contraband Bayou Golf Club and the other will take place in the Fall, November 11-12, hosted by Mallard Golf Club. The Lake Charles Classics will bring new playing opportunities to the LJGT and the ability to play with other juniors from the STPGA region.  To read more about the Lake Charles Classics and the partnership with the STPGA, click here.

The 2023 schedule will kick off February 25-26 and is highlighted by the 5th annual Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball hosted by Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, LA. This event is a LJGT member favorite combining a fun and competitive atmosphere with the opportunity to play a four-ball format with a friend and gain knowledge from PGA Tour Pro Sam Burns, a top 15 player in the world. The host club and Sam’s home club, Squire Creek, was again voted the #1 golf course by Golf Digest in 2022. The Tom Fazio design has hosted numerous LJGT and LGA championships over the years. It is always in pristine condition, presents second to none hospitality, and continues to prove why it is one of the best clubs in the South.

Other highlighted tournaments on the 2023 schedule are the David Toms Junior Championship, The Junior River Cup, and The LJGT Tour Championship. The David Toms Junior Championship will be hosted by East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport, LA, July 25-26. After a year removed, the LJGT is happy to return the coveted David Toms Junior Championship back to the tour. The Junior River Cup will be hosted this year by the LGA/LJGT at Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe, LA, Sept. 16-17. The Junior River Cup is an invitation only Ryder Cup style event that invites the best junior golfers in Louisiana to team up and take on the best junior golfers in Mississippi. The top players in the Louisiana Junior Player of the Year standings at the end of the year are extended invites, plus a captains pick from the LGA/LJGT. The LJGT Tour Championship this year will be hosted by Links on the Bayou in Alexandria, LA, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The Louisiana Junior Player of the Year awards are handed out at the conclusion of the LJGT Tour Championship and this championship always has major implications on who wins the prestigious POY award.

The 66th Louisiana Junior Amateur and 57th Louisiana Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship will be conducted this year at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary, LA, June 27. This is the pinnacle championship for juniors in the state of Louisiana. The champions will receive automatic invitations to compete in the Junior River Cup and will have their name etched in Louisiana golf history forever.

The LJGT will conduct four other LJGT tournaments at top-notch facilities in the state; LJGT at Cane Row, LJGT at The Wetlands, LJGT at Beau Chene, and LJGT at University Club. “We are very excited to be bringing the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour to these wonderful host clubs in 2023 and sincerely appreciate their willingness to support junior golf in our state. We are looking forward to another exciting year and the opportunity to continue to elevate junior golf in Louisiana.” says Norris.
