Benton Boys Tied at the Top after First Round of LJGT Tour Championship

First round results of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour’s Tour Championship held at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria, Louisiana on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

63 players competed in round one of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour’s Tour Championship.  Morning tee times began at 10:30 AM off the 1st tee.  The final group finished on time at 6:10 PM.  The course played to a par 72 at 6,700 yards for the Overall Boys Division and approximately 5,700 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 11-13 Division.

Cason Toms and Kade Bryant from Benton are currently tied as the first round leader for the Overall Boy’s 14-18 division at two-under par, 70. Bryant finished with five birdies and three bogeys, while Toms finished with six birdies and four bogeys. Sitting one shot behind at one-under par is Dax Reaux from Breaux Bridge. Reaux is also currently in the lead for Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Overall Boys Player of the Year.

Maci Williams of Brusly took the lead in the girls’ division with an impressive round one score of 74. She shot a 34 on the front nine, including three birdies and one bogey, and a 40 on the back nine, with four bogeys and the remaining holes at par. Williams is also leading the race for the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Girl’s Player of the Year Award. Winning this championship will secure her title for the 2023 season. Vivian Volion of Springfield is currently in second place at four-over par, with Teagan Connors of New Orleans in third place at five-over par.

In the Boys’ 11-13 division, Hudson Greene of Bossier City finished at the top of the leaderboard shooting a three-under par, 69. Greene had a “pretty good round” according to him making six birdies, one eagle, and three bogeys, and one double-bogey. Behind Greene tied for second place is E.J. Spangler of Youngsville and Crew Galambos of Shreveport at one-over par.

The event took place in the city of Alexandria at Links on the Bayou which opened in 2002, in order to meet the area’s growing need for a public golf course. Mike Mitton, president of M2 Management, is responsible for the daily operations and staffing for the facility.
