44 players competed in the Super Senior division and 82 players competed in the Overall Division of the first round of the 37th Louisiana Senior Four-Ball Championship held at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary, Louisiana. Tee times began at 7:30 AM off of hole one this morning. The course played to a par 72 at 6,543 yards for the Overall Division and 5,858 yards in the Super Senior Division.
Zachary, LA – Philip Schmitt and Scott Sterling of Baton Rouge are the champions of the 37th Louisiana Senior Four-Ball Championship, finishing with a solid 11-under par. The pair secured the title after a playoff against runners-up Robby McWilliams of Benton and Rod Baronet of Lecompte. Sterling made a notable eagle on the par-5 second hole at Beaver Creek. Along with the eagle, they recorded three birdies and one bogey, which sent them into the playoff.
The competition remained close throughout the day, with the leaderboard frequently changing. Cade Hebert of Abbeville and Wendell Akins of Baton Rouge finished in third place with a 10-under par total.
The LGA also hosted a Super Senior Division Championship for competitors aged 65 and older. Joe Ellis Michael of Homer and Scott Morgan of Benton won the Super Senior title with a final score of 11-under par, highlighted by a 65 in their last round that included seven birdies and a bogey-free card. Three teams tied for second, leading to a scorecard playoff, where Randy Goff of St. Francisville and Steven Inzenga of Baton Rouge finished as runners-up at eight-under par. John Hernandez of St. Amant and Pat Lambert of Gonzales placed third.
It was a pleasant weekend at Beaver Creek Golf Course, and the Louisiana Golf Association thanks the Beaver Creek staff for their support and for providing a great venue for this year’s championship.
