Neves Goes Eight Under During First Round of LJGT at TPC Louisiana

A look into the first round of the LJGT at TPC Louisiana tournament held at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

80 players competed in the first round of the LJGT at TPC Louisiana tournament held at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana. Tee times began this morning at 7:00 AM off the 1st and 10th tee. The course played to a par 72 at 6,721 yards for the Overall Boys Division and approximately 5,675 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 11-13 Division.

Avondale, LAJade Neves of New Orleans held nothing back during the first round of LJGT at TPC Louisiana. The local golfer not only went bogey-free for the entire round, but she also made eight birdies throughout her 18 holes today, putting her at the top of the leaderboard for the Overall Girls’ division. Neves is not only at the top, but she is also 15 shots ahead of the rest of the field with her final score of 64. In runner-up is Sara Carter Hare of Spanish Fort, Alabama at seven-over par. In third place is Kate Boersma of Ruston at ten-over par.

EJ Spangler of Youngsville also found his way into the red numbers today and claimed the top spot in the Boys 11-13 division after carding a score of three-under par, 69. Spangler had an impressive round that consisted of five birdies and two bogeys throughout his 18 holes. In runner-up, two shots behind, is Madden Baughman of Poplarville, Mississippi with a score of two-under par, 70. Grey Ramsey of Choudrant is currently sitting in third place at one-over par, 73 going into tomorrow’s final round.

It is a tight race in the Overall Boys’ division, but Rylan Hess of Covington managed to get a shot ahead of the field to claim the round leader title. Hess finished today’s round at three-under par with four scattered birdies and one lone bogey on his scorecard. Following close behind in a three-way tie for second are Kyle Traub of Metairie, Drew Prieto of Baton Rouge, and Duke Nitcher of New Orleans, all at two-under par.

There was a weather delay at 11:45 AM, but players were allowed back on the course at 12:30 PM, resuming play and finishing strong despite the interruption.

Tomorrow’s final round will definitely be a nail-biter for these boys with all the scores being so close. Tee times are set to start tomorrow at 7:00 AM off the 1st and 10th tees. TPC Louisiana, known for its stunning layout and challenging course designed by the legendary Pete Dye, has once again provided a fantastic venue for the LJGT.
