The Louisiana Junior Golf Tour member spotlight is a monthly article highlighting the strong talent in our state.
Our February junior golfer to be featured is Sarah Meral of Abita Springs. Sarah is a rising senior at St. Scholastica Academy, and has been a member of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour(LJGT) since its inception in 2019. She had a great year, winning the Sam Burns Junior Four-Ball with partner Sarah Knight and the LJGT at U Club. She was also the runner-up of the 93rd Louisiana Women’s Amateur. Sarah has verbally committed to play golf at Troy University.
Here is our Q&A with Sarah:
What is your favorite golf memory?
My favorite golf memory would be my first hole in one. I made it on the 8th hole at my home course (Money Hill Golf and Country Club) during the beginning of Covid, in April 2019.
If you were a golf club, which club would you be and why?
If I were a club, I would want to be a putter because without it you can’t win golf tournaments. On days where your hitting poorly, the putter could be the reason you win. Without the putter, golf would be much harder.
What is your dream golf course to play?
My dream golf course to play would be Augusta National Golf Course.
Along with yourself, who would be in your ideal golf foursome?
My ideal golf foursome would be Lexi Thompson, Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson and myself.
Favorite PGA or LPGA player?
My favorite player is Phil Mickelson.
What sport would you play if you did not play golf?
If I did not play golf, I would play soccer.
Favorite golf movie?
My favorite golf movie would be Happy Gilmore.
What are you currently binge-watching?
I am currently binge-watching Maid on Netflix.
What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school would be Art, specifically visual art.
