Everson Takes Home the Trophy with 9 Birdies at University Club

A look into the final round of the LJGT at University Club tournament held at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Wednesday, July 30, 2024.

74 players competed in the final round of the LJGT at University Club tournament held at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tee times began this morning at 9:15 AM off the 1st tee. The course played to a par 72 at 6,597 yards for the Overall Boys Division and approximately 5,598 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 11-13 Division.

Baton Rouge, LA – After being tied for first place after round one, Derby Everson of Shreveport claimed his victory in the Boys 11-13 division during the final round of LJGT at U-Club. Everson, with a final-round score of 64, finished at 8-under par with 9 birdies, and a flawless bogey-free front 9. Finishing the championship at 7-under Everson beat his competition by 10 strokes. Runner up was Augustin Gros of Metairie at 3-over par and a bogey-free back 9 in the final round. Third place went to Reed Winkler of Shreveport, who finished the tournament at 5-over par.

Holding firm at the top of the leaderboard on her home course, Maci Williams of Brusly is once again the Overall Girls Champion, finishing the tournament at six-over par. This marks the second consecutive year Williams has earned her title as the Overall Girls Champion of the LJGT at U-Club. Vivian Volion of Springfield is the runner-up with a total score of ten-over par, while Evelynn Artieta of Denham Springs claimed third place with a score of 13-over par.

Sitting in sixth place after the first round Bennett Lanasa of Mandeville rose up the leaderboard and is the Overall Boys Champion after a one-hole playoff. Lanasa and Parker Greene of Mandeville finished the final round tied at two-over par, leading to a showdown on the par 4, 18th hole. While Greene made par on the playoff hole, Lanasa claimed the trophy with a birdie, adding to his five birdies in the final round. Greene, who finished as the runner-up, played consistently with one bogey on both the front and back nines, and he closed his round with a birdie on 18. Riggs Ryan of Lafayette is in third place after winning a scorecard playoff, shooting a 72 after the round.

The LJGT at U-Club is grateful for the hospitality of University Club and wishes to thank the staff for all their hard work. The course was well maintained, providing the junior golfers with a truly outstanding experience.
