78 players competed in the first round of the LJGT at University Club tournament held at the University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tee times began this morning at 9:15 AM off the 1st tee. The course played to a par 72 at 6,597 yards for the Overall Boys Division and approximately 5,598 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 11-13 Division.
Baton Rouge, LA – Maci Williams of Brusly is leading the Overall Girls Division at LJGT at the University Club with a 73 at 1-over par. Williams showcased resilience throughout the round, finishing today’s round with three bogeys on the front nine and two on the back nine, while also carding in three birdies on the front nine and one on the back. Williams holds a four-shot lead over her closest competitors, Evelynn Artieta of Denham Springs and Ashlynn Crimmins of Covington, who are currently tied for second place sitting at 5-over-par.
Crew Galambos of Shreveport and Derby Everson of Shreveport are both at the top of the Boys’ 11-13 Division, each finishing at 1-over-par. Galambos recorded three bogeys on the front nine and two on the back nine. Notably, he also achieved a remarkable hole-in-one on the par-3 fifth hole with a pitching wedge from 110 yards, along with one birdie on each nine. Everson has a similar performance including one bogey on the front nine, two on the back, and one birdie on each nine. Trailing closely in third place is Augustine Gros of Metairie, who is just one stroke behind with a score of 2-over-par. The competition remains fierce as Galambos and Everson head into the final round tomorrow.
The heat doesn’t stop there, with Slayte Guidry of Shreveport taking the top spot on the leaderboard for the Overall Boys’ division. Guidry finished today’s round at one-under par with a bogey-free front nine that included two birdies. He then proceeded to shoot a 37 on the back nine, which included two bogeys and one birdie. One shot behind at even par is Maddox Mowad of Monroe, and in third is Parker Greene of Mandeville at one-over par. With the field so close, almost anything can happen in tomorrow’s final round. It will be very interesting to see who ends up taking home the trophy.
