126 players competed in the second round of the 59th Louisiana Girl’s and 67th Louisiana Junior Amateur Championships held at Mallard Golf Club. Tee times began this morning at 7:30 AM off the 1st and 10th tee. The course played to a par 72 at 6,803 yards for the Overall Boys Championship, a par 72 at 5385 yards for the Boys 10-11 Championship, and a par 72 at 5,621 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 12-13 Championships.

Lake Charles, LA – It was a long, 12 hour day at Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was a slow early morning start that lead into some impressive leaders emerging after today’s second round for the Overall Championships and final round for the 10-11 Boys and 11-12 Boys Championships.

In the Overall Girl’s Championship, Evelynn Artieta of Denham Springs maintained her lead after shooting a 75 today, putting her at one over par for the championship. Artieta had a rough start during today’s round, making a bogey on her first hole. She then came back and kept it consistent by shooting par until making bogeys on holes 11 and 12. Things started to brighten up with her solo birdie on hole 13, but unfortunately, she evened it back out with a bogey on hole 14 and shot par through 18.

It is impressive to see how much Artieta has improved compared to last year’s Junior Amateur Championship. Tomorrow’s scene will be nail-biting as we watch if the Walker High School golfer can finally claim the trophy. Three shots behind in second place is Jade Neves of New Orleans. Neves came back with a vengeance today after yesterday’s round of 78, shooting a two under par, 70, putting her at four over par for the championship. Neves had a clutch eagle on hole 8 at Mallard Golf Club and three other birdies sprinkled around her scorecard. Tied for third are Abigail McWilliams of Benton and Maci Williams of Brusly at nine over par.

The final round of the 10-11 Boys Championship resulted in Landon Lotz of Slidell taking home the championship trophy after shooting a 75 during today’s round, putting him at 2 over par for the championship. Lotz had quite the round today, going up and down throughout his last 18 holes. He also had a rough start with two bogeys before getting his first birdie on hole 6. He then hit another rough patch, doubling hole 7 and making a bogey on 9. The back nine was much more enjoyable for Lotz, as he made birdies on holes 10 and 14 and a bogey on 17.

Crew Galambos of Shreveport finished in second after shooting a final round of 75, putting him at six over for the championship. Third place went to Samuel Perrodin of Ville Platte, with a score of 9 over par overall.

Grey Ramsey of Choudrant claimed the championship title in the 12-13 Boys Championship after shooting one-under par today, putting him at one over par for the championship. Ramsey had a slow start with a bogey on his first hole, but quickly found his rhythm, making birdies on holes 7, 8, and 10. He slowed down with a bogey on 14 but wrapped up his round with a birdie on 17 and a bogey on 18.

This is his third championship win this season, after victories at the LJGT at Calvert Crossing and the LJGT at the Farm tournament. Ramsey is proving to be a formidable competitor this season. In second place, one shot behind, is Derby Everson of Shreveport, finishing at 2 over par. Everson had an eventful round today, including four bogeys, three birdies, and a notable eagle on hole 8, carding a 71 for today’s round. Finishing in third is Nolan Osborne of Gonzales in a scorecard playoff with a final score of five over par.

Play in the Overall Boys Championship was suspended this afternoon at 2:45 PM due to a dangerous weather situation and resumed at 4:20 PM.

Drew Sliman of Lafayette had an outstanding performance today in the second round of the 67th Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship, shooting a four-under-par 68 to place himself at the top of the leaderboard. Sliman had an almost flawless round, going bogey-free until the last hole and splitting his birdies, making two on the front nine on holes 5 and 8, and another three on holes 10, 13, and 17. Today’s round puts him in a solid lead for the championship at six-under overall.

There was also a significant shift in the leaderboard from yesterday for second place, with Dax Reaux of Breaux Bridge and Kye Hanks of Lake Charles tied for second at one-under par. The duo had matching rounds, each making one birdie and one bogey on both the front and back nines.

A cut was made following today’s round in the Overall Boys Championship, reducing the field to the top 60 players and ties.

Mallard Golf Course was in excellent condition today and will provide a prestigious setup for tomorrow’s final championship round.
