Shreveport, Louisiana – It was a beautiful, breezy day at East Ridge Country Club. The course played tough for this championship. In the Boys 11-13 division, Alexander Hammonds of Texarkana, Texas, took home the trophy after finishing the final round at even par, putting him at 2-over par for the championship. Hammonds had a solid round today, recording 4 bogeys and 4 birdies. At four-over par, Derby Everson of Shreveport finished as the runner-up. Everson had 2 birdies, 2 bogeys, and one double bogey during today’s final round. In third place was Brycen James Massey of Honolulu, Hawaii, at six-over par overall. Massey had the lead going into today’s round but struggled, recording 5 bogeys and one double bogey during today’s round.

Abigail McWilliams of Benton secured the top spot in the overall Girls Division finishing the tournament with a total score of 159, finishing +15 over par. Despite the challenging course and tough conditions, she maintained her composure and delivered a strong performance over the two-day event. Runner-up is Morgan Goudeau of Pineville and in third place is Kate Boersma of Ruston.

Today saw an intense showdown in the Overall Boys’ division between Maddox Mowad of Monroe and Drew Prieto of Baton Rouge. Mowad entered the final round with a commanding six-shot lead over Prieto, but Prieto made it clear he was not going down without a fight.

Prieto’s round was a rollercoaster, starting strong with a birdie on his first hole, which was quickly offset by a bogey on the second hole. He bounced back with another birdie on the third. He bogeyed the sixth but regained ground with birdies on the seventh and ninth holes. On the back nine, Prieto maintained his composure, making birdies on the 12th and 14th holes and bogeys on the 16th and 18th, finishing the round evenly carding in a 70 for the day.

Mowad struggled at the start, making four bogeys on the front nine with only one birdie on the third hole. His back nine was slightly better, with three more bogeys and two birdies. Despite his efforts, both players finished at two-under-par, leading to a playoff on the 18th hole, a par 4 at East Ridge Country Club.

In the playoff, both players made par on their first attempt. On the second attempt, Prieto made par again, while Mowad unfortunately bogeyed, making Prieto the official champion of the 2024 David Toms Junior Championship and Mowad the official runner-up.

Finishing in third place and winning the Boys 15 and Under Division was Slayte Guidry of Shreveport, with a score of four-over-par.

East Ridge Country Club was in excellent condition for the championship, and the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour extends its gratitude to all the faculty and staff at ERCC for their hospitality this week.
