Artieta Leads Round One of LJGT at Calvert Crossing

A look into the first round of LJGT at Calvert Crossing tournament held at Calvert Crossing Golf Club in Calhoun, Louisiana on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

64 players competed in the first round of the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour’s tournament held at Calvert Crossing Golf Club. Tee times began this morning at 7:30 AM off the 1st tee. The course played to a par 72 at 6,655 yards for the Overall Boys Division and approximately 5,693 yards for the Overall Girls and Boys 11-13 Division.

Calhoun, Louisiana – The first round of the LJGT tournament at Calvert Crossing concluded today under cloudy skies, but fortunately, there were no rain delays. Leading the Boys 11-13 division after 18 holes is Grey Ramsey of Choudrant, finishing at one-over par with 3 birdies and 4 bogeys. Just one shot behind is Owen Lejeune of Baton Rouge, the runner-up. Lejeune had an eventful round with 4 birdies, 4 bogeys, and one double bogey. Tied for third heading into tomorrow’s final round are Crew Galambos of Shreveport and Augustin Gros of Metairie, both at 3-over par. Galambos recorded 2 birdies, 3 bogeys, and one double bogey, while Gros had 3 birdies and 6 bogeys.

In the Overall Girls’ division, Evelyn Artieta from Denham Springs is the round leader after finishing at 2-over par, with five bogeys and three birdies. Close behind, in the runner-up position, is her friend Maci Williams of Brusly, who shot a 75, 3-over par, with 2 birdies, 3 bogeys, and one double bogey.

The competition is intense in the Overall Boys’ division, with Parker Greene of Mandeville and Slayte Guidry of Shreveport tied at the top of the leaderboard, both finishing at one-over par. Greene had a flawless front nine, carding two birdies, and on the back nine, he recorded four bogeys and one birdie. Guidry also had a solid round, with 3 birdies and 4 bogeys. Just one shot behind, in third place, is Hudson Greene of Bossier City, who carded a 2-over par 74, with 5 birdies, 2 bogeys, and 2 double bogeys.

The excitement is building up for tomorrow’s final round at Calvert Crossing. Tee times will begin tomorrow at 7:30 AM off the first tee.
