Lafayette, LA – The winner of the 67th Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship this week will have an extraordinary trophy to take home.  New this year, the Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) has unveiled the Russell Gaudin Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship Trophy, and the winner of the state junior amateur will receive custody of this perpetual trophy for one calendar year following their victory. Named for, and honoring, Russell Gaudin of Baton Rouge, the trophy is a beautiful custom silver Colonial Cup made by the Oldani Brothers Company in Connecticut.

Russell Gaudin won the first and second Louisiana Junior Amateur Championships in 1958 and 1959. This trophy will forever honor his legacy and showcase his support of amateur golf in Louisiana. Russell was humbled by the honor when LGA Vice President Phillip Frazier, Executive Director Logan Ray, and LGA Director of Championship Operations Jacob Oaks presented the trophy to him at his home in Baton Rouge last month. Gaudin is a highly decorated amateur golfer and his passion for golf in Louisiana is unrivaled. To now have his name engraved on the state’s most prestigious junior amateur trophy that is named after him is a tremendous honor, and the LGA is excited for Russ to share in this moment.

In addition to the Russell Gaudin Junior Amateur Championship trophy, the Louisiana boys junior amateur champion will earn an exemption into the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to be conducted at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan July 22-27. They will also earn fully exempt status through to the AJGA and get an automatic invitation to play for Team Louisiana in the 2024 Junior River Cup matches. The champion will also receive $500.
