Lafayette, Louisiana – Our March Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Player of the Month is Mr. Owen Lejeune. Residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Owen is currently a student at The Dunham School. Owen has been a participant on the Junior River Cup team in 2022 and 2023. The star athlete also recently won the 6th Annual Sam Burns Four-Ball Championship! We had the privilege of conducting an interview with Lejeune, where he shared insights into his golf success. Here are his responses!
What is you favorite golf course you have played so far?
TPC Sawgrass
What college do you plan on attending?
Not sure yet, I am only in 6th grade 🙂
If you could play golf with anyone in the world, who would you pick?
I would pick Justin Thomas because I have been watching him and idolizing home for a very long time and I think It would be awesome to play with him.
When did you start playing golf?
Age 4 just for fun and age 7 competitively
What inspired you to take up the game?
One day I saw my dad take clubs out his car and asked what they were. He explained it was golf and I have never stopped after that.
What is your favorite memory from playing golf?
When I birdied 18 to win the Sam Burns four ball with my teammate!
Describe your pre-round routine.
First I need to eat something, then when I get to the course I do about 15 minutes of putting then 25 minutes on the range 20 minutes of chipping. Lastly I head to the tee box!
Any superstitions or rituals before a tournament?
I don’t have anything major but I always stick to my warm up routine.
What’s your go-to club in a challenging situation?
My 56 degree wedge because I trust it and practice with it a lot.
What is your dream course to play?
Bandon Dunes
If you were a golf club, which would you be and why?
My 56 degree because it is my favorite club and I love hitting different kinds of shots when chipping
What is your go-to snack and/or food/meal to get you “tournament ready”?
Dill pickle cashews
Who is someone you love to play with or against because you know it will help improve your golf game?
My partner for the four-ball Madden Baughman
What advice would you give to aspiring young golfers?
Practice, practice, practice
Favorite hobbies or activities besides golf?
Basketball and listening to music
