LGA ANNOUNCES 2024 PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

Lafayette, LA | November 8, 2024

The Louisiana Golf Association is pleased to award its 2024 Player of the Year to Greg Berthelot of Baton Rouge, 2024 Women’s Player of the Year to Abigail McWilliams of Benton, 2024 Senior Player of the Year to Robby McWilliams of Benton, and 2024 Senior Women’s Player of the Year to Kay Daniel of Covington.

Greg Berthelot of Baton Rouge reclaimed the Player of the Year title after winning in 2022 and finishing 2.5 points behind Kyle Bennett of Zachary in 2023. Just like in 2022, Berthelot defeated the best amateur players in Louisiana at the 105th Louisiana Amateur Championship at The Country Club of Louisiana. Berthelot became a three time Louisiana Amateur Championship after rounds of 69-72-69-72. With this victory, Berthelot earned an exemption into the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club. Berthelot and his partner Kyle Williams of Choudrant finished T11 at the Louisiana Four-Ball Championship at Southern Trace Country Club. This result was enough to give Berthelot a 5 point advantage over Clinton Shepard of Lafayette.

Robby McWilliams of Benton claimed his 4th Senior Player of the Year title (2019, 2020, 2021). McWilliams finished 35 points ahead of 2023 Louisiana Senior Player of the Year Eric Lavespere. McWilliams was runner-up at the Senior Amateur Championship at Ellendale Country Club with rounds of 72-68-72. McWilliams and his partner Rod Baronet of Alexandria finished runner-up at the Senior Four-Ball Championship at Beaver Creek Golf Course to secure 65 points. McWilliams also had an impressive showing at the 105th Louisiana Amateur Championship by making the cut and finishing T41.

Abigail McWilliams of Benton captured her first Louisiana Women’s Player of the Year by 15 points over Maci Williams of Brusly. McWilliams the 5 seed defeated Williams the 6 seed at the 96th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship at Lake Charles Country Club in 20 holes. McWilliams and her partner Grace Goodwin of Bossier City finished runner-up at the 23rd Louisiana Women’s Four-Ball Championship at The Golf Club at Stonebridge. McWilliams will graduate from Benton High School in 2025.

Kay Daniel of Covington won the Women’s Senior Player of the Year title by 95 points over Julie Harrison of Baton Rouge after an incredible season. Daniel began her season by winning the Louisiana Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Chateau Golf & Country Club. Daniel earned 30 points at the 96th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship. Daniel made it to the Consolation Final Match but fell to Sydney Moss of Shreveport 4&3. Daniel also qualified for the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, Washington. Daniel earned the 17th seed after stroke play qualifying and won her Round of 64 match 1 Up. Daniel played well but fell in the Round of 32 2&1.

It was an outstanding 2024 season for all of our Players of the Year.  Congratulations to these players!
