Lafayette, LA- Volunteers are the backbone of the Louisiana Golf Association’s success, and in 2024, Miss Nancy Conravey modeled this spirit with her unwavering dedication and expertise. It is with great appreciation and respect that we recognize her as the LGA’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year.
This year, Nancy generously contributed her time and talent as a Rules Official at numerous events. Her service included LGA tournaments such as the Men’s Senior Amateur, Louisiana Junior Golf Tour event at TPC Louisiana, and the Women’s Amateur Semifinal and Final Rounds, as well as USGA qualifiers for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Four-Ball, and U.S. Mid-Amateur. Additionally, Nancy’s expertise extended to prestigious national and collegiate competitions, including the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship and the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.
In addition to her work as a Rules Official, Nancy also serves as a member of the LGA Board of Directors. She joined the board in 2020 and is currently in the second term of her three-year service. Her leadership and insight have been invaluable, and her commitment to the organization shines through in everything she does.
Nancy’s journey as a Rules Official began in 2000, when she attended her first USGA Rules Clinic to deepen her understanding of the game she had been playing since 1990. She took on her first assignment in 2004 at the SEC Women’s Golf Conference Championship, hosted by LSU, at the invitation of distinguished Rules Officials Martha Lang and Mary Capouch. That experience, coupled with the mentorship of Carr McCalla, ultimately laid the foundation for her passion for officiating.
Upon retiring from ExxonMobil in 2007, Nancy dedicated herself to volunteering, beginning with the 2008 Net Amateur Championship. Her dedication to the LGA has been unwavering ever since, and she served as the Rules Chairman for the Louisiana Women’s Golf Association from 2008 to 2013. Today, Nancy continues to serve as an Expert Certified Rules Official, crediting her mentors and the LGA staff for their continued guidance.
“Knowing the rules is one thing; learning how to officiate is another,” Nancy reflects, highlighting her commitment to continuous learning and excellence. Her extensive knowledge, professionalism, and passion for the game have earned her the respect and admiration of players, officials, and staff alike.
The Louisiana Golf Association is immensely grateful for Nancy’s contributions. Her dedication not only ensures the success of our tournaments but also inspires everyone around her to uphold the values and traditions of golf. Her hard work and commitment to our organization have made a huge impact, and it is an honor to celebrate her as our 2024 Volunteer of the Year.
