The Louisiana Junior Golf Tour (LJGT) is thrilled to announce Ashlyn Crimmns and Thomas Oubre as recipients of the prestigious 2024 eLAvate Your Game scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a male and female LJGT member who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, leadership, sportsmanship, and a commitment to community involvement.
Lafayette – Ashlyn Crimmins, a recently graduated senior at Archbishop Hannan High School in Covington, Louisiana, has been named the inaugural female recipient of the eLAvate Your Game Scholarship. This recognition is an attestment to Ashlyn’s remarkable achievements in both academics and athletics. Throughout her high school career, Ashlyn has consistently maintained a GPA above 3.5, excelling in honors classes such as Engineering Design, Algebra, and Geometry. Her dedication to her studies has earned her multiple Crimson Honor Roll awards.
On the golf course, Ashlyn’s journey began at the age of nine, and she has since become a formidable competitor. She has earned top placements in various tournaments, including the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tournament and USSSA Golf events. As the captain of her high school golf team, Ashlyn has played a pivotal role in its growth, inspiring her teammates with her leadership and competitive spirit.
Beyond the course, Ashlyn has shown a strong commitment to her community, volunteering with the National Honor Society and mentoring younger golfers. Her involvement in events like the Zurich Classic and PGA Junior League reflects her passion for golf and her dedication to giving back.
Ashlyn’s leadership and maturity have been recognized by many, including Chad Barwick, Executive Director for Catholic Education and Superintendent, who praised her discipline, dedication, and innate competitiveness. With the support of the eLAvate Your Game Scholarship, Ashlyn looks forward to continuing her academic and athletic journey at the collegiate level.
The male recipient of the 2024 eLAvate Your Game Scholarship is Thomas Oubre, a recent graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. Thomas has been a dedicated member of the LJGT, participating in 23 events throughout his junior golf career. His standout performances include shooting a remarkable round of 68 at Tamahka Trails Golf Course, where he made six consecutive birdies.
Off the course, Thomas has shown a deep commitment to his community, volunteering with organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank, St. Joseph’s Diner, and The Hub-Lovewell Center. His leadership extended to his school activities, where he served as captain of the St. Thomas More Varsity Golf Team and participated in various religious and service-oriented groups.
Thomas will be attending the University of Dallas, where he plans to continue his golf journey while pursuing a degree in business. He credits golf with teaching him essential life skills, including hard work, dedication, attention to detail, and perseverance, all of which he intends to apply in his academic and future professional endeavors.
The LJGT is proud to support both Ashlyn and Thomas in their collegiate journeys and is confident that they will continue to excel both on and off the golf course. The eLAvate Your Game Scholarship not only honors their past achievements but also sets the stage for bright and promising futures.
