HAL WRIGHT
LEADS LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION NET AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
May 15, 2010 -- Baton Rouge, LA -- The weather was the
real winner on Saturday at the 2010 Louisiana Golf Association Net Amateur
Championship as almost half the field failed to finish their rounds. Play
was suspended for just over an hour at 11:30 AM and then again later in
the afternoon with play for the day called at 5:15 PM. Competitors that
didn’t finish will return on Sunday at 7:30 AM to finish their first round
of play. Of those finishing their first round on Saturday, Hal Wright of Olde Oaks GC fired a three-under par 69, with Sid Wilde of Oak Knoll CC in
second place after his two-under par 70. Close behind are Mike Sibley of
Tchefuncta CC and Rhett Bourgeois, also of Oak Knoll CC, both finishing at
one-under par 71.
This year’s event is again being held at the Robert Trent Jones, Sr.,
designed Santa Maria GC in Baton Rouge, which played to a par of 72 at
6,600 yards on Saturday. The course in East Baton Rouge again drew strong
reviews from the field.
The LGA conducts this event to provide a true championship event for the
higher handicap player with procedures in place to assure that consistency
and integrity are benchmarks for the event. The LGA is utilizing the USGA
Tournament Score Probability Table to adjust any handicap indexes where a
player’s score exceeds normal probability. In addition to the Overall Net
Championship, the field is divided into four flights with the top-three
finishers in each flight also receiving awards.
In the eighth annual Net Club Team Championship, 12 teams are competing on
behalf of their clubs, hoping to take home the beautiful crystal trophy
signifying the Net Club Team Championship.
Flight leaders after day one are as follows:
St. Andrews

2. Mike Sibley/Covington 71
3. Jacob Chapman/Destrehan 74
