LGA CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP ON TAP THIS WEEKEND

April 23, 2010 -- Gonzales, LA -- Twenty-one Louisiana Golf Association Member Club teams tee off Saturday and Sunday in the 22nd annual LGA Club Team Championship. This year’s event will be held at the Links course at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales. Pelican Point also hosted this event in 1999 and 2000.

OakWing Golf Club from Alexandria will return to defend the title it won last year at Tamahka Trails Golf Club in Marksville. Firing a two-day total of six under par, OakWing bested Mandeville’s Beau Chene Country Club by six shots. Beau Chene will also return to again battle for the crown.

Other past Champion Clubs also returning include 2006 Champions Hebert Municipal GC of Lafayette, 2005 Champions University Club of Baton Rouge, and the host club and 2004 Champions Pelican Point Golf Club. The field is again extremely strong for this popular event. 126 players will start off the #1 tee beginning at 7:30 AM on Saturday, with the last starting time scheduled for 12:50 PM.

Each team consists of one of the Club’s professionals and five club members or six club members. Saturday’s play will consist of 4-Ball stroke play with the best two of three scores counting as the team’s score for the day. On Sunday, it will be individual play with the best four of six scores counting. With this format, a team can come from far back since four scores will count on Sunday as opposed to two on Saturday. This Ryder Cup type format has proved to provide an exciting and fun event.

Sunday’s play will again go off #1 tee at 7:30 AM.

Pelican Point Golf Club will no doubt again prove to be an extremely popular venue. The Links course will play to a par of 72 at just over 6,600 yards.
