KOASATI PINES AT COUSHATTA TO HOST LGA STATE AMATEUR

June 4, 2010 -- Kinder, LA -- Koasati Pines at Coushatta Golf Club will host the 91st edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship June 10-13.  144 players from across Louisiana comprise the field that will compete over 72 holes for the most prestigious Amateur Championship in the state.  32 players were exempt from having to qualify while 112 players survived sectional qualifying at eight sites across the state to reach Championship round play at Koasati Pines.

Of the top 25 finishers from last year at English Turn Golf & Country Club, 16 will return. This includes Ken Looper of Mandeville, the 2009 runner-up, as well as Patrick Christovich of New Orleans and Mark Noel of Abbeville, who tied for fourth.  Robby McWilliams of Bossier City and Cody Santone of Haughton, who tied for sixth, will also be in the field.

Former champions Grady Brame of Hammond (2002) and Scott Haynie of Baton Rouge (1993) will also be on hand, as will 2009 LGA Mid-Amateur Champion Matt Nicholas of Lake Charles.  Other local players expected to vie for the Championship include Robby Going, George Cestia, Ben Suarez, Doug Quienalty, and Billy Gabbert.  This year’s event has again drawn a strong field from top to bottom in what will no doubt be an extremely exciting Championship.

Koasati Pines at Coushatta will play to a par of 71 at approximately 7,000 yards.  Koasati Pines hosted the 2004 LGA Club Team Championship but this will be the first time the facility has hosted the State Amateur, the LGA’s marquee Championship.  The course is in wonderful condition and should provide a stern test for the top amateur players in Louisiana.

“We’re extremely excited to be able to bring this Championship to Koasati Pines.  This begins a three year run of their serving as host to LGA events; the Amateur this year, the Four-Ball Championship in 2011, and the return of the Club Team Championship in 2012.  We are indebted to Koasati Pines at Coushatta for supporting the LGA in this manner,” said LGA Executive Director Carr McCalla.

The Championship kicks off Thursday morning, June 10, at 7:30 a.m., off both #1 and #10 tees.

Pairings and Tee-Times:

Round 1 - Thursday, June 10

Round 2 - Friday, June 11
