PRESS RELEASE ENGLISH TURN TO HOST LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION 4-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND July 14, 2010 -- New Orleans, LA -- The twenty-seventh annual Louisiana Golf Association Four-Ball Championship begins Saturday at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans. 84 teams from across the state will compete for the prestigious title presently held by Garrett Westbrook of Baton Rouge and Blake Kelley of Mandeville. Westbrook and Kelley shot 14-under par 130, then bested Darrel Benoit of Belle Chasse and Scott Sterbcow of Metairie in a four-hole sudden death playoff at TPC Louisiana to take home last year’s title. 2008 Champions Gayle Sanchez of Baton Rouge and Tommy Brennan of Covington will also be on hand, as will 2006 Champs Brett Casey of Houma and Gavin Johnson of Kenner. Other former Champions participating this year (albeit with other partners) include Scott Sills of West Monroe, playing this year with Terry Brown; Ryan Fabre of Brusly, playing with David Millet, Jr.; Bill Land of Lafayette, playing with current LGA Mid-Amateur Champion Matt Nicholas; Bob Cooper of Monroe, playing with Adam Middleton; and Grady Brame of Hammond, playing with Grady Brame, Jr. Former Champions of this event also include PGA Champion David Toms and PGA Tour winners Brian Bateman and Mike Heinen. Toms won with Duane Lorio in 1986, Heinen with Mike Genovese in 1987, and Bateman with the aforementioned Bob Cooper in 1994. The highly-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus-designed course at English Turn, host to the PGA Tour’s New Orleans tour stop for many years, is in wonderful shape for this field of the top players in Louisiana. It will play to a par of 72 at just under 7,000 yards. Starting times will begin in two waves, at 7:30 AM and then again at 12 Noon, on both Saturday and Sunday with groups going off both #1 and #10 tees. Teams will be repaired for Sunday’s round, based on Saturday’s scores, with the leaders going off the first tee at approximately 1:30 PM. ###
